In 1915, the New York City-based Women’s Political Union took its suffrage campaign upstate and sponsored open-air meetings in towns along the Erie Railroad. Meetings were held in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area in June. As pictured here, a tent was set up near the Women’s Union Building in Dunkirk as a headquarters for the union and its volunteers. Dunkirk suffragist Elnora Babcock can be seen standing in profile, third from right.
